In August 2017, Marcegaglia UK installed a new EFD Induction 400kW WELDAC high frequency tube welding system on the largest pipe mill at their UK Dudley plant.

General Manager, Nick Haycock, commented: ‘We really needed to get our mill speeds up and we saw the EFD Induction welder as the best solution for us. The single cabinet design was also a major benefit due to space availability’.

The new EFD Induction welder, which replaced an old Thermionic valve welder, has resulted in considerable energy savings as well as increased mill speeds.

Every year, Marcegaglia’s Dudley plant produces 70,000 tonnes of carbon steel welded tubes, ranging in diameter from 12,7 mm to 88.9 mm. The WELDAC’s wide automatic matching range has enabled Marcegaglia to produce all sizes on this particular mill – from 35 mm to 88.9 mm, with no limitations.

EFD Induction supplies WELDAC systems for tube, pipe and profile manufacturing in power levels from 50kW to 2000kW. The single cabinet design is available up to 1100kW.
